Obama says the Cambridge Police acted stupidly after the arrest of one of his friends, a Harvard
Professor. Dr. Skip Gates who is a prominent and highly respected African American
professor at Harvard University was arrested when he was spotted trying to "Jimmy"
his lock open after forgetting his keys at home. Once inside his home Dr. Gates showed his
ID and proof of residence and was still arrested on Disorderly Conduct charges. The cambridge
police dropped the disorderly conduct charges but the officer who arrested Dr. Gates refuses to
apologize. This is one of the many issues African Americans face on a daily basis.
This story hits home for me because recently I experienced a situation similar to this one.
I was Djing at a party in at The University of Massachuesetts Amherst, when a fight occurred.
I was in no way involved in the altercation but I was arrested. Before my arrest the advisor for
the party spoke to the police and told the police I was not involved and others around me
before I was apprehended said I wasn't involved in the fight. I was still arrested and charged
with disorderly conduct. Later they realized I WASNT INVOLVED but I am still facing legal
problems from the situation.
This shit isn't right in both cases. I feel like police should be automatically suspended
and their record should be reviewed when these types of situations occur. Situations
like these happen way to often. What do you think about these types of situations? Do you think
these incidents were race motivated?

well obama said the police acted stupidly, not necessarily calling them stupid! but yea so many different sides to the story...but i think there was a little bit of anger that flared and racial profiling
This was well put and It's sad that as Blacks we have to put in these crazy situations. I hate to say this but racial profiling is not going any where until we do better as a people to strategically move policy to prevent this. Before you know it..they will be arresting OBAMA when he decides to go into the White house in the middle of the damn day. Keep the hope alive and have good lawyers...because the battle of racial profiling is only getting worse...( sorry to sound so negative...but its the truth...)
I agree! The police did act stupidly...very stupidly. When Gates presented identification showing proof to the police that he did indeed lived there, they should have left...no matter what he said..smh
